A quick and healthy side dish of tender asparagus with crispy tips, made in the air fryer with simple seasonings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bunch fresh asparagus (firm, bright green with tight tips)
  • 12 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil or avocado oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 390°F (200°C).
  2. Rinse the asparagus under cold water and pat dry.
  3. Trim the woody ends by snapping each spear at its natural break or cutting off about 1–2 inches from the bottom.
  4. In a bowl, toss the asparagus with olive oil, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper until evenly coated.
  5. Arrange the asparagus spears in a single layer in the air fryer basket without overcrowding.
  6. Air fry at 390°F for 5–10 minutes, shaking the basket gently halfway through. Use cooking times based on spear thickness: 3-4 minutes for thin; 4-7 minutes for medium-thick; 7-10 minutes for thick spears.
  7. Remove asparagus from the air fryer and serve immediately for best texture and flavor.

Notes

For even cooking, do not overcrowd the air fryer basket to avoid steaming instead of crisping., Shake the basket gently halfway through cooking to ensure even crisping., Adjust cooking time depending on the thickness of the asparagus spears and your air fryer’s wattage., Serve immediately, optionally topped with a squeeze of lemon juice and grated pecorino cheese., Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days; reheat in air fryer or oven to restore crispness., Avoid microwaving leftovers as it makes asparagus soggy., Freezing cooked asparagus is not recommended as it can become mushy and lose flavor.
