A moist and tender homemade pumpkin bread packed with cozy fall spices and semi-sweet chocolate chips. Easy to make with no mixer required, perfect for breakfast, snack, or dessert during the fall and holiday season.

  • 3 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 4 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
  • 2 cups canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling)
  • ⅔ cup brown sugar
  • ⅔ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup applesauce OR canola oil
  • 3 eggs, room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1½ cups semi sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup mini semi sweet chocolate chips (reserve a couple tablespoons for the top if desired)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease two 8×4-inch loaf pans and line them with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together all purpose flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, and pumpkin pie spice.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together canned pumpkin, brown sugar, granulated sugar, applesauce or canola oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until blended.
  4. Pour wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently stir just until moistened and combined. Avoid overmixing.
  5. Fold in the semi sweet chocolate chips, reserving some mini chips to sprinkle on top if desired.
  6. Divide batter evenly between the prepared loaf pans and sprinkle reserved mini chips on top if using.
  7. Bake for 50 to 55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
  8. Let loaves cool in pans about 10 minutes, then transfer to wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Tools needed: Loaf pans, mixing bowls., Chocolate chips optional but recommended for extra indulgence., Use canola oil for richer crumb or applesauce for less fat., To prevent chocolate chips from sinking, toss in a tablespoon of flour before folding into batter., Bread keeps 2-3 days at room temperature, 5-7 days refrigerated, or freezes well up to 3 months., Can make muffins, mini loaves, or one big loaf adjusting baking times accordingly., To check doneness, toothpick inserted should come out clean or with few moist crumbs.
