Golden and crisp on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, these air fryer French fries offer a healthier, easier alternative to traditional frying with perfect crunch and seasoning.

  • 2 large russet potatoes (about 1 pound total), scrubbed and peeled if desired
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • Cooking spray for the air fryer basket (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Scrub russet potatoes and peel if desired, then cut into 1/4 to 1/3-inch matchstick fries.
  2. Place cut potatoes in a large bowl of cold water and soak 20–30 minutes to remove excess starch.
  3. Drain the potatoes and spread them on clean kitchen towels or paper towels; pat completely dry.
  4. Toss the dried fries in a large bowl with olive oil, kosher salt, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and black pepper until evenly coated.
  5. Preheat the air fryer to 380°F (190°C) for 3–5 minutes and lightly spray the basket if desired to prevent sticking.
  6. Arrange fries in a single layer in the air fryer basket, leaving space around each piece; cook in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding.
  7. Air fry at 380°F (190°C) for 14–18 minutes, shaking or flipping halfway through, until edges are golden and fries are crisp outside but tender inside.
  8. Taste a fry and add more salt if desired while still hot.
  9. Transfer to a serving plate and garnish with fresh parsley if using. Serve immediately with your favorite dips such as ketchup, garlic aioli, ranch, or spicy mayo.
