Instructions

  1. Peel Russet potatoes and chop into roughly 1/2-inch pieces.
  2. Peel and dice carrots to yield about 1 cup.
  3. Place potatoes and carrots in a large pot, add water and Better Than Bouillon chicken base and minced garlic, bring to a simmer.
  4. Cook potatoes and carrots until tender, about 20 minutes.
  5. Meanwhile, melt butter in a separate pot over medium heat.
  6. Stir flour, salt, and pepper into the melted butter to form a roux.
  7. Slowly whisk whole milk into the roux a little at a time, whisking until smooth and thickened.
  8. Use a potato masher or fork to mash the cooked potatoes to your preferred texture (or blend with an immersion blender for ultra-smooth).
  9. Pour the creamy white sauce into the pot with the mashed potatoes and stir to combine.
  10. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper.
